We gathered here in Sharm-El-Sheikh in Egypt for one of the most monumental conferences of our time__COP27. This conference umbrella’s decades-old fears and our delicate hopes in a time of unprecedented climate change and ecological crisis_ burdens that risk bankrupting our gift planet’s core asset “biodiversity”, and leave our survival and civilization in question. This delicate opportunity therefore asks of us responsible and urgent translation of our seemingly well-intentioned and planned contributions into a new and legendary era of cooperation for renewable and planet-friendly energy. We have done some but we need to do more faster enough before the planet enters a new dreaded phase of irreversible chaos.
Without doubt, we are the generation, young and old, indigenous and otherwise credited with the sacred duty and stewardship of overturning a destructive and inefficient neo-classical economic system that has cast millions of innocent people in the global south into unbearable chains of suffering making the achievement of Millennium Development Goals impossible to connect on time.
Our common dreams for climate and debt justice bear witness to our tested patience for the long-awaited change. This is a gift planet handed down to us through mysterious unfoldings over time, and clearly, this gift is the very basis of our gift economy, which now, is under inconceivable threat.
The earth is still our only home and we MUST police our own commitments to climate mitigation upholding the trust bestowed on all world leaders through the Paris Agreement. While there is still ample time, let’s avoid the path that might force rational society into climate trials to the scale and mood of Nuremburg! No sensible constitution on earth should protect the right of a corporation or individual government to destroy the natural capital of the planet which is for all of us. DO NOT WAIT TO BE SURPRISED… ACT RESPONSIBLY WHILE THERE IS STILL TIME.
Lastly, as earth defenders from all walks of life strive to get their grip on the climate crisis puzzle, we know well that there are dictators and corrupt regimes, credit institutions and clubs, laws firms, fossil fuel companies and their shareholders that are still pressing their knee hard on our necks. The planet won’t breathe until these change their bad habits. It goes without saying that climate mitigation trusts and debt justice schemes need to be more decentralized, inclusive and connected in their work throughout the entire global north and south.
Finally, although, we are very culturally different, we are ONE HUMANITY, living on the SAME PLANET, seeking a COMMON SOLUTION to a COMMON PROBLEM. Let the beautiful cost of the Red Sea where we came together for COP be a place where we leave with and maintain confirmed hopes that a new future built and based on renewable energy is possible through our unity and untiring sacrifice.
